The rosemaled chairs are signed by Cindy Malone. Rosemaling actually originated in Norway, but by this time the art form had spread to Sweden.
I did not originally know the provenance of the corner cabinet, but realized my mother had mounted the cabinet upside down. I pulled it off the wall, removed the mounting wax, and found Ruth Pollock’s signature and a date of 1998 underneath. Ruth Pollock is a miniature artist of some reknown. I found a note tucked into a Ruth Pollock trunk in the colonial house that reads as follows:
Sept. 2014
These are my favorite pieces. Ruth Pollock painted them and her husband made them. She lives in Spain. She is very well respected in Europe/England and USA. I took a class from her and painted a yellow cabinet on the wall in the colonial house and a chimney in the second bedroom.
She comes to the big miniature show in Chicago to teach classes along with many other artisans. I made several things at these shows—learned how to dress new dolls.
(My mother’s name withheld for privacy).
An interpretation of the Carl Larsson house in miniature, made by my mother and previously on exhibit at the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis.
